Happy NAIDOC week!
A week when Australia celebrates Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, cultures and communities.
This year theme emphasizes the importance of the more than 120 Indigenous languages still being spoken, their preservation and revitalization. Aboriginal and Torres Strait languages are not just a means of communication, they express knowledge about everything and maintain the connection between generations.
Today Choices were very privileged to be a part of this community event in Ipswich where our Educational Leaders Wendy and Merinda were joined by 15 of our educators and their children in care. Our little people displayed a sea of green hats where they made their presence exploring and participating in face painting, rides and taking home lots of bags of information and resources.
Strong links with the local community also provide educators with invaluable information and resources. By drawing on community knowledge and expertise, educators are better able to understand the children and families with whom they work, and better able to provide children with learning experiences that are meaningful and relevant to their lives.
